Environmental issues continue to affect varnish selections. Many customers continue to fight stricter regulations, particularly in areas with high population density or areas close to residential housing.
In some areas HAPS (hazardous air pollutants) are really more important to their inspectors than VOC's. For these kinds of circumstances, BC-346HF has an answer.
This product still remains typical of most solvent-based materials, averaging between
4.0 to 4.5 pounds per gallon of VOC. This range is based upon thinning to 50% solids.
VOC percentages will be between 40-50%. Such is the VOC nature of most solvent-based materials.
However, HAPS is a different story. Haps with BC-346HR will be significantly lower, decreasing from a typical 30-40% down to 12%. This can be an answer for certain customers who do not want to convert to more expensive solventless systems.
An additional advantage is an increase in flash point up to around 100° F. However, this will cause this product to need some additional cure time in the oven as compared to BC-346A.
This product can be mixed with most solvent-based polyesters, but compatibility tests should be performed before mixing. Also, if a dramatic decrease in HAPS is necessary immediately, it might be necessary to fill the tank totally with this product to obtain the lower HAPS level. We can help all customers work out these details.
